What is the TES?

TES stands for Teaching Engagement Scale
It is a system that collates teaching and learning feedback from 4 key stakeholders via online questionnaires to generate evaluations of the overall teaching experience a lecturer provides.

Who are the key stakeholders?

The TES collates 360° teaching and learning feedback on a lecturer's teaching from these key stakeholders:

  • Students: People who participate in their teaching
  • Peer & Superior: People who know something about them and their work
  • Self: Their own views of their teaching and preparation

The TES system then generates several reports, including the TES Scorecard, from stakeholder feedback, meaning that a lecturer's teaching will be considered from more than one viewpoint.

What is the purpose of the TES?

The TES was primarily developed to provide lecturers and schools with reliable information with which to make informed decisions about continuous professional development and improving student learning outcomes.

The reports generated from the system will identify strengths, as well as growth areas, which can be supported by further training and development.

Who is eligible for the TES?

For 2015, all part-time and full-time teaching staff teaching undergraduate taught modules are eligible for evaluation via TES.

**All modules or staff not in this scope should continue using their existing module evaluation methods.**

How do I access the TES?

Login using your existing Staff ID and password using the following link: tes.taylors.edu.my
(i.e. the ID and password you use to login to the Taylor's network)

How will I know when to do my TES evaluation?

If your module ends between the current Teaching Engagement Period and the end of the Staff Assessment Window, you will complete your TES evaluation during the Staff Assessment Window.

You will receive a notification email in your staff email account when it is about to begin.

You will also receive reminder emails just before the staff assessment window closing date.

How will my students know when to do their TES module evaluation?

The student assessment window opens during the following periods:

Module Duration

TES Student Evaluation Week

7-week modules

Week 5

9-week modules

Week 7

10-week modules

Week 6

12-week modules

Week 8

14-week modules

Week 10

18-week modules

Week 14

During this time, students will be able to complete and submit their TES module evaluation.

Lecturers will need to conduct an in-class TES module evaluation for their students. For more information, please refer to the Guidelines for conducting the TES Evaluation.

What are the questions on the TES Evaluations?

You can view sample questions in the "Resources" section.
Students will be asked to evaluate the module and a lecturer's teaching engagement in one questionnaire.
The responses are captured on a 5-point scale with an option for a qualitative response.

Is student feedback anonymous?

YES. Student feedback is anonymous and individual students are never identified in any of the reports generated.  This means that the reports a lecturer receives only shows the combined results of the class and a list of comments.
The lecturer will not know which student has completed the TES evaluation and who has not.

All reports are processed by an independent party outside of the school, the Teaching and Educational Development (TED) @ INTELLECT.

Is staff feedback anonymous?

No. The peer and superior is known to the lecturer.
